Flying Ember Causes Fire in Mountain View Home?
8/1/2023 (Permalink)
Aloha! For over twenty years now, our local Hawaii and Maui teams have been restoring fire damage for Mountain View locals. Fires in firepits and outdoor wood-burning grills can send live embers flying into the air, and under the right conditions, these embers can land and start a fire. Here are some grilling and firepit safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:
Grilling Safety Tips
- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors
- The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches
- Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill
- Never leave your grill unattended
- Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it
Fire Pit Safety
- Fire pits should be located at least 10 feet away from the home or structure
- In areas where campfires are permitted, they must be at least 25 feet away from any structure and anything that can burn
